SEPTEMBER 2 - Labor Day Holiday - NO SCHOOL

BPAugust 16, 2019

There is a great deal of excitement and anticipation associated with coming back to school each August.  This past week, we began the 2019-20 school year, and it was fun seeing our students arrive for the first day of school.  Our staff spent many weeks over the summer preparing for the new year, and we are poised for great things in Hesston schools.

Each August, our Board of Education (BOE) approves a new budget for the school year.  On Monday, August 19, the BOE will vote on the 2020 Fiscal Year budget, and you can find the budget summary by clicking here.  You can also view the budget in its entirety by clicking here.

This year's budget includes a considerable increase to our general fund due to recent work by the Kansas legislature to raise the base state aid per pupil amount during the 2018 and 2019 session.  In addition, USD 460 has seen a bump in enrollment, increases in state aid in several funds, along with an increase in our local assessed valuation, all of which contribute to increased funding.  This has allowed us to lower our mill levy for the FY20 school year by over 2.0 mills, which is something that has not happened for over a decade.

As we enter 2019-20, we have identified a number of priorities we wish to pursue in the short and long-term.  Our Board of Education communicates these priorities through our District Priorities Document, and you can view this year's priorities along with the previous 5 years by clicking here or by hovering over District and clicking on District Priorities at the top of this page.

We are looking forward to a great year in USD 460 and hope everyone in our school community is excited to start 2019-20.  Activities will be kicking off soon, and all of the fun that goes along with the fall season.  As always, please holler anytime should you need anything at all.

Respectfully,

Ben Proctor
Superintendent
