PARENT ADVISORY | SITE COUNCIL

October 25, 2019

"Parent Advisory and Site Council"

We have our next Parent Advisory and Site Council session on Tuesday, November 12th from 6:00-7:00 pm at the high school. Our focus for this session will be bullying and our approach to this issue in Hesston schools. We invite anyone in our school community to attend.

The format of our session will be a short presentation on bullying, specifically how bullying is defined by state statute and school district policy. We'll look at some of our student perception data on bullying and discuss current work around the state including an overview of the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Bullying and proposed legislation from the 2019 session in Topeka.

This is an important topic in schools, and it is an issue we take very seriously. We also understand that bullying situations are often quite complex and require an informed, consistent, and skilled approach from the educators who work with our kids each day. We want to talk about our approach and share ideas on how we can grow proactively and in response to situations that fall under that construct of bullying.

We hope you join us for this collaborative opportunity. Along with our presentation on the topic, there will also be time for small group discussion as we work together to create the very best learning environment for all.

Respectfully,

Ben Proctor
Superintendent

March 18, 2019

Our final Parent Advisory and Site Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from 6:00-7:15 pm in the Hesston High School library.

These meetings are opportunities for all parents and guardians of USD 460 students along with interested community members to gather, discuss and learn about our schools in Hesston. We will meet for approximately 30-45 minutes as an entire district and then 30 minutes will be building-level discussions led by our principals.

Our focus on the 19th will be district initiatives as we enter the final quarter of 2018-19 and move into the 2019-20 school year. The format of these sessions allows for large and small group conversations, and we encourage anyone in the USD 460 school community to attend and participate.

We look forward to our conversation on March 19 beginning at 6:00 pm in the HHS library and hope you can join us. If you plan to attend, please contact your child's school or feel free to contact our district office by calling 620-327-4931 or email ben.proctor@usd460.org.

January 2, 2019

Our next Parent Advisory and Site Council session will be held on Tuesday, January 22 from 6:00-7:15 pm at Hesston High School.

These meetings are opportunities for all parents and guardians of USD 460 students along with interested community members to gather, discuss and learn about our schools in Hesston. On January 22, our district-wide conversation will center on two primary initiatives in USD 460 for the 2018-19 school year and in the years to come. First, we will discuss the concept of Authentic Literacy and what this means for our students as they apply the skills and knowledge they learn inside and outside of our classrooms. A second initiative we will discuss is Standards-Based Protocols, which is a way we promote high expectations for student learning and performance in USD 460.

We look forward to our conversation on January 22 and hope you can make it to HHS that evening. If you plan to attend, please contact your child's school or feel free to contact our district office by calling 620-327-4931 or email ben.proctor@usd460.org.

August 6, 2018

Once per quarter, every parent or guardian of a child in USD 460 is invited to attend our Parent Advisory and Site Council sessions. Each of these meetings is held from 6:00-7:00 pm at Hesston High School.

These sessions typically consist of 30 minutes to discuss district-wide topics and 30 minutes to focus on building-level topics. The meetings are structured so that participants can hear information about things happening in our schools and share thoughts and ideas on these initiatives.

We will have Parent Advisory and Site Council sessions on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, August 21

  • Tuesday, October 30

  • Tuesday, January 22

  • Tuesday, March 19

Again, these sessions will run from 6:00-7:00 pm at HHS. On August 21, we will take a look at some of the specific initiatives that we will focus on for the coming year. This includes our current grading practices along with how we approach standards-based protocols.

Our District Improvement Framework is an important resource and guide for many of our district-wide discussions during these sessions.

We hope that you will consider participating in these opportunities throughout this school year. If you do plan to attend or if you have any questions on anything at all, please call, email, or text any time. Our office number is 620-327-4931 and my email is ben.proctor@usd460.org.
