YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS
Kansas Suicide Prevention Resource Center
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24. (2014 CDC WISQARS)
More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, combined.
On an "average" day in the United States, there are more than 5,200 suicide attempts by young people in grades 7-12.
While these facts are disturbing, there is hope. By educating ourselves and others, we can make a difference.
Below are links to two suicide awareness/prevention websites and a printed (pdf) resource for parents. Parents are encouraged to discuss any concerns about their student's emotional well-being with a school counselor.
