USD 460 Families,
We are entering the winter season and with that comes the potential for inclement weather that can sometimes cause school closure or delays. We want to share our procedures for communicating with our school community.
There are a number of ways winter weather can impact school, including very cold temperatures and/or wind chills, winter precipitation, road conditions, winter weather forecasts, etc. When it is determined we need to close or delay school, our goal is to make this call just as soon as we are able.
If we determine that we need to close or delay school due to inclement weather, we will share this information through the following platforms:
Infinite Campus Email
Infinite Campus Text Message
USD 460 Mobile App
USD 460 - Hesston Schools Facebook
USD 460 Website Live Feed
KSN, KAKE, KWCH News Stations
In the event that we delay school, we will call that a "late start," and each school building will begin at 10:00 am. We know that a late start can be an inconvenience for families, but sometimes it is necessary to have additional time to get driveways, parking lots, and walkways cleared. Beginning at 10:00 am also allows us to provide an adjusted but effective school day schedule for our students and staff, which is far better educationally than an entire day off from school.
It is important to have your contact information updated in Infinite Campus to ensure you receive the immediate email and/or text notifications.
An important note, if we determine it is safe to have school, we will not send out any notifications. This helps avoid confusion if the initial decision is to have school and conditions change causing a closure or delay.
As always, please call or email if you have any questions or need additional information. Our office number is 620-327-4931 or email ben.proctor@usd460.org.
